R. Gavelis’ square
The square is a place in a city to remember R.Gavelis - one of the most famous contemporary prose writer, playwright and publicist in Lithuania.
The design concept of the square is strongly influenced by the existing terrain. Since the territory itself is small, in order to accomodate it, the square is formed on the slope - in the form of an amphitheater.
The main pedestrian and bicycle path winding through the territory, created according to the principles of universal design, not only performs a transit function, connects the spaces, but also allows the visitor to view the space from various perspectives. This path combines several recreation areas, an active one - the middle terrace of the amphitheater, and two smaller-scale, calmer ones formed further away from the central pedestrian connection. Closer to residential buildings, larger pockets of hard surfaces are formed in order to accommodate the commercial premises on the first floors.
