Pavilnys community center
Our landscape design proposal responds sensitively to the existing natural and cultural context of Pavilniai district - a district in Vilnius densely built with individual houses, but surrounded by forests and hills.
The existing free and organic context obliges the newly created community center building to be formed from smaller, human-scale volumes, which functionally and logically connect together, but as a whole form more delicate volumes, open the building facades for dialogue with the surrounding nature, and form small chamber courtyards.
The public spaces formed on the larger plot also harmoniously adapt to the existing trees and fruit trees: an public amphitheater, outdoor class - pavillion, activity zones for kids and youth.
From an urbanistic point of view, four newly formed volumes in the shape of a recognizable sloping house harmoniously respond to the architectural expression characteristic of the Pavilnis region.

The solutions envisage the strengthening of the natural landscape on the plot by revealing the character of the existing orchards. While nurturing the existing deciduous vegetation and naturally growing fruit trees, the solutions aim to preserve the maximum amount of mature tree stands, and to transplant trees that grow singly and where it is possible to preserve them in their natural habitat. Grass and shrubs suitable for the soil are offered to form a complete landscape. The selected species are undemanding, characteristic of the area, and therefore do not require much maintenance.
