AB “Klaipėdos energija,” founded in 1929 on the bank of the Danė River, is a state-protected cultural heritage site that has preserved its authentic interwar industrial architecture.
The ambition of the urban project is to open up and activate this abandoned industrial complex, transforming it into a new, vibrant attraction center for Klaipėda, while preserving its unique industrial character. A comprehensive redevelopment of the territory is proposed, forming clear perimeter blocks that include a new architectural mound and high-rise development. Strategically important solutions include improving connectivity, especially via the new Bastion Bridge, and relocating the Municipal Services Center to the eastern part to become an architectural focal point, while designating the western part for residential use.
To create a multifunctional space, various functional zones will be integrated: public, commercial, cultural, sports, and residential. The project includes an interactive energy museum, a university branch, a kindergarten, affordable housing, and co-living spaces. The connection with the water will be strengthened by installing a quay for small boats, balancing hard surfaces with greenery, and ensuring modern infrastructure, such as underground parking. This comprehensive approach will allow for the creation of a cohesive and functional space that meets the needs of the modern community.
