The Smiltynė landscape is the result of human-nature interaction (Curonian Spit – a UNESCO World Heritage site), shaped in the 19th century. The concept aims to leverage its vast, untapped natural potential, inviting visitors to discover a unique forest and landscape experience in Smiltynė.
Smiltynė is a district of Klaipėda, located just over a kilometer from the city center. The Smiltynė Forest Park concept enhances Klaipėda’s image as an attractive place to live by leveraging the area’s vast recreational potential. Based on this vision and in accordance with the city’s strategic plans, the concept and its design solutions are set to be implemented by 2030.
Five recreational routes are proposed along existing paths: Thoughts for the Sea, Soul for the Trees, Steps for the Sand, and Silence for the Lagoon. The project’s core narrative focuses on minimal artificial intervention in nature. Instead, subtle artistic and architectural installations are designed to amplify the natural impact on the visitor: framing panoramas, installing wind catchers, harvesting rainwater, creating rest areas, and inviting people to discover the history of Smiltynė.
