“Bauland” won the architectural competition to create a new public space in the intensively urbanized Perkūnkiemis district – the “Perkūno oželis” (Snipe of Perkūnas) Square.
This project is important for the district, aiming to solve the acute lack of green spaces and create a long-awaited public space for residents. The square’s concept is based on the mythological significance of the “Perkūno oželis,” considered a companion to the god Perkūnas, thereby seeking to strengthen the local identity, create a new point of attraction, and establish a unique legend for the district. Great emphasis in the project is placed on preserving biodiversity and harmonious integration into the urban environment. The goal is to restore natural habitats by forming wetlands and designing thoughtful water systems.
The square is designed to meet various community needs, featuring a clear and convenient system of functional zones. Residents will have access to walking paths, active recreation areas, and quiet relaxation oases with benches. Additionally, the square will be enriched by distinctive small architectural elements: an amphitheater for community events, cozy pavilions, a decorative fountain, and modern children’s playgrounds.
