The main goal of the project is to revitalize the church approaches, transforming them into a quiet, cozy, and community-gathering space where historical heritage is harmoniously integrated with modern solutions.
The axis of the concept consists of two main elements connecting the different parts of the space. Firstly, the existing protected pavement is emphasized and carefully integrated, becoming an authentic part of the new space that tells the city’s history. Secondly, a subtle flowing water element, harmonizing with the existing architecture and leading towards the church, will provide vitality and tranquility to the environment.
To achieve this vision, several clear functional zones are being created: a representative pedestrian zone for the churchyard, a more private residential zone, a versatile event space with an amphitheater, and a quiet community gathering space with a garden. All these solutions, combined by the historical pavement, water motifs, and greenery elements, will create a harmonious and functional environment that preserves historical heritage and opens new possibilities for community life in Vilnius Old Town.
