What is the transformation potential for the former Vilniaus baldai territory, which is seen as the key site for Vilkpėdė’s regeneration?

The urban study details the development of the Vilniaus baldai territory, which has the greatest potential to become the axis of Vilkpėdė’s transformation. The development vision aims to balance residential, commercial, service, and sports functions within one space, while preserving the industrial heritage aesthetic and creating a modern, dynamic part of the city. A mixed-use quarter structure with distinct architectural accents is planned, which will complement the city skyline and give the territory a unique character.

At the center of the development concept is a new system of public spaces: squares, an ecological corridor, “pocket” green zones, and a representative entrance plaza connecting the quarter’s internal spaces. A public connection is planned through an existing building towards the Aukštieji Paneriai forest, and on the other side, a potential link to the Neris riverbank. Industrial heritage will be integrated into new buildings, and a natural water collection system will manage flood risk and collect rainwater. The transport scheme is based on a one-way ring road serving the entire quarter, while additional public transport connections will allow for the utilization of existing train tracks.
